Oppose the sex-selection abortion amendment
An amendment to the Serious Crime Bill has been tabled by Fiona Bruce MP, Termination of pregnancy on the grounds of the sex of the unborn child.
There are complex reasons for boy-preference in some communities. An amendment to criminalise sex selective abortion does not and cannot tackle any of these. Evidence about the extent of sex selection abortion in the UK may be contested, but there is certainly no evidence that the proposed ban would prevent a single sex selective abortion.
We are deeply concerned that this amendment would have an immediate negative impact on women’s access to abortion and is a first step towards further regressive legislation to limit abortion access.
Please contact your MP urgently to ask that they oppose this dangerous amendment by entering your postcode below. A template letter will appear, but feel free to alter this or write your own message.
